I don't understand too much the video but I think that we shouldn't have one history about a event or a place, because one history involves that the people only can believe this history, and anything else. What I mean with this is if the people only believe in this history, finally the people only believe in that, and the people will become what history says.
We think that the other people besides us is equal and think the same, but this isn't so. We create prejudices about a person before to meet her. And this is that I think the people do wrong.
As a conclusion of the video I can say that "where there's a will there's a way".

The danger of a single story

In The danger of a single story, we can observe a dangerous problem that it’s present in our days. The protagonist is Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a writer from Nigeria, and she’s in a conference to talk about a problem. Her aim is simple: Report and make a critique about the lack of knowledge about her country and Africa because of the stereotypes and prejudices. She says that these stereotypes and prejudices are not false but the problem is that stereotypes don’t say all things of her country and Africa, only bad things. Consequently, these stereotypes make to think to other person that Africa is a bad continent. However, we can observe that she had a good life in Nigeria and she loves Nigeria despite of the injustices that they live with other factors in the country.

In my opinion, I think that she’s right. That is to say, these stereotypes make that people only see a single story of Africa, and this story is the bad situation that they live. However, people forget something: Everything that you see is different to other thing, and every person is different to other person and you can’t valuate to a continent with stereotypes due to people who make bad things in Africa. Africa has many stories that if we knew of them, our vision of Africa would change.

This video is about the prejudices and stereotypes that exist in Africa:

Chimamanda is the spokesman of this topic. She is from Nigeria and is a very clever writer. In her conference she talks us about how she has been improving her writing since she was a child.
But the objetive of that woman is show to the world how foreigners have made African prejudice about their lifestyle, and that prejudice is very negative and wrong.
However Chimamanda says there are a lot of good things in Nigeria, and she says that if you want to know a country, you have to know every story of that country. But the problem is that occidental people have a prejudice about Africa, but they don't know almost anything about it.
So they have a wrong stereotype.

In my opinion, I'm agree with that woman because we shouldn't make a prejudice when we don't really know anything about Africa or anything else.

  4. Hello José Luis, I'm Ana Cas (love you)

In the video of the danger of a single story, we thought that we reflect to the underdeveloped countries, in this case Nigeria.
The protagonist tells the situation in which he lived and what Sentio when first went to the U.S., he was struck by the impression that society to his country, and he realized that this was due to the prejudices that are given to Nigeria , which on one hand is that not correct but is not the whole story.
In my opinion this video tells the truth about the prejudices we have on the developing countries and I think we need to study the whole story to have a broader view of these countries

In this video title'' the danger of a single story'' we are told of the amount of prejudice that we have the majority because we are not well informed about what is happening in other countries. Just show us the'' bad'' of other countries and that is the vision that we have of them. We do not think there's anything'' good'' in those countries.
In my opinion it is true that we let ourselves be too influenced by the media and we know that sometimes we only show a part of the truth, so we must be consciertes it, and try to inform ourselves of the things that happen , so we are not fooled

  6. The danger of a single story

In this video we can see the problems that occur day after day in different parts of the world, places where the people percerve the reality, the ambient and society with more difference that the native people. For this reason, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie presents her ideas and shows the stark reality of this world which is full of misunderstanding, of difference between the black and white man which reassonably Chimamanda explains this difference making it look like a safe equality of culture and origin.

Finally, I think that she tells the truth, because she is really showing how the society in which we live. And in the other hand, I want to add that I liked this video very much because she really says all there in this miserable world.

  7. I think this video is very good because the girl talks about what happens to us normally with other countries such as Nigeria as we believe it is a poor country with few resources, and what makes us think that they are the media as they are informing us of things and just give us the bad part of the country without telling the rest, and perhaps this country is not as poor as we think.

On the other hand the same thing happens to people outside with Spain, believes that Spain is simply paella and bulls, and once you're here you realize it's not all that. So I think that explains the girl is very well saying that we need to know not only a unique history of things like that because we did not know everything.

In conclusion we should not believe everything we see through the media of other countries because we simply teach the bad part, but we have to be concerned and do not know that's how I always have.

  8. I think this video is very interesting because this is a problem today and that has created many conflicts over the years. This is the idea we have of a country like Nigeria or persons resident in there just for having read a little about them or just what they tell us on the news daily and judge accordingly no more. This should not be so because each place has its positives and negatives but power puts the "label" to each one for the simple fact that a country is more than another and it affects our thinking towards them and stereotypes are created.

Another example is now Spain. Today only foreigners think we are thieves, that power is coming down and we are a party or taking a nap because we have a stereotype of that any more and that is how they see us all before we met .

In conclusion, we should put more emphasis on making a visit all the country and make the power we put a label on each one and judge ourselves so at will and considering our conocimiento.La idea is clear, all are equal in all aspects of life rather than being white have to be smarter or as they say "the race".

  9. INGLÉS PRÁCTICO - Ana Alberola

    Hi Jose Luis!
I have seen this video and, now, I’m going to give my personal opinion about it.

The video is a conference that, the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie does about the problem of Nigeria. In the conference, she explains that, nowadays, we only have one image of her country. Generally, we think that in Nigeria the children aren't happy or can't be educated in the schools. For her opinion, she says that, normally, we have some prejudices or stereotypes of her country. That is the reason that the author does the conference. She wants to show that in Nigeria the wars and poverty aren't a constant. As I have said before, she is Nigerian, and she tells her testimony; in the video, she has told that, in her infancy, she was a very happy girl and, with the effort of her parents, she learned to read or to write. Nowadays, she’s a professional writer and she’s very famous in America.

Now, I'm going to give my personal opinion. I think that the video is very interesting. Before to see it, I too had this image of Nigeria. I believed that Nigeria was a poor country and all its habitants lived in poor conditions. As Chimamanda says, in some cases, the prejudices are true, but no always. I think that this video is very interesting because, for talk about it, the author has used her personal experienced. I think that, in many cases, the personal experience will give more credibility.

  10. The Conference of this Nigerian woman to tell us its history and many other different, is incredible because hear you open your eyes. It makes us stop a moment to think that he is actually right.

When you are breaking news on television about poor countries or in war, are just explorations and creeandonos a bad idea, because that is only what we show each.
People talk about racism and fighting for that end, when the first that created it are the media to give news on black children who die of hunger or have no toys, people that abounds with sida, the African boats that slip... All these things are which have provided that the "white'' are created different and thus also higher than people in poor countries.Only teach us what they want to teach us, when reality is going more beyond, not only there is poverty and death in these countries, also there are honest and hard-working families, and also children dream of becoming actors, singers...
We are not different to them because they live in a country with different beliefs, races, Governments... Not all the bad this there, and everything good here, in each place are good and bad things.

I believe that the main cause of racism and superiority toward others is due to the knowledge of a single story that talks about this woman.
If they are not the media who begin to change and inform the world not just of disasters, but also of the achievements and good news for poor countries, we will always have a single story and vision of all.

  11. In this video, we can see, unfortunately, the truth of people's thoughts. When one person say something of African people, we always think in the bad part of their lifes, and that should be changed.

The nigerian girl of the video, say that we only know a single story of these people, not only of nigerians. Because of that, we should take information of all of these people, and don't believe the story what people want that you know, because we don't know the really story of a lot of towns, cities, and countries.

But the same happens with Spain, for example. We don't know the image that foreigner people have of us, and in my opinion, in the situacion that we are, this foreigner people can think that, like girl say in the video, we are waiting for someone to help us. And this is not the true.

Because of that, we never have to remain with information that people give to us, we have to invstigate, and know all the stories of all countries, and don't know only, the single story.

I think that this video is incredible becuse the girl explain to all people that when we read one impresion of some country or some people we can think only in this impresion but is not real. How we can see in this video, she talks about her country, Nigeria, and she's very proud with her country, and when we listen the name of Africa we think that is a poor country but is not true.

She is talking also of all the problems with the diference with the black and white people, becouse in this world, unfortunately, this topic is which makes the diference, but all we are the same and we must be respectful whit the others cultures and the others persons

In conclusion, this video is very very good becouse it gives us a grat lesson of respect and equality and as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie explain in this video, not all is that we think that is.

I like this video because is very interesant because the girl called Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian writher and she is talking in this video about the racism and the different existent with the black and the white persons.

She talks also about her country, Nigeria, and she is very proud and when we listen the name of Africa we think tha is a poor country but is not true. She talks that when listen an impression of one person or one country we thinks only that we listen but to meet very goo one person or one country we needs know more of this.

In conclusion, I think that all people be the same and we didn’t discriminate anyone because, maybe, the more poor person like the protagonist of this video, can become in a very important person and I have to say that this video is a very good example of the respect and this video gave us a good lesson of equality.

  15. There is no doubt that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the Nigerian writer who is having a conference in the video, just want to show us how the stereotypes and prejudices make us a wrong vision of the most places due to the education and even the literature, and if we want to have a complete and plausible opinion, we should have a look in as she calls "another stories, not a single story". Because it's clear that there is thousands of ways to describe how a place, their culture, people, music is and many times we unwittingly make wrong prejudices due to "the single story" the most cultures give us to have a perception how a place is.
In the conference she specially focused on the African situation and how she felt when she became aware of American stereotypes about Nigerians. She thought it was a pity that people have this kind of wrong perception about a so wonderful place due to the single story they have received in their childhood and that have made a poverty and painful vision about Nigeria. So she wanted to show them another story and viewpoint about how her country was and then offer a more complete perception. She also realized that Africa has most problems and obviously it has poverty and hungry inhabitants, but that isn't the only way to describe her country and continent, so she finished the talk with a wonderful words to make us think to look another stories before have prejudices of a place: "When we reject the single story, when we realize there is never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of paradise."

She explain one history in which his family was middle class and butler had a family that was poor, she thinks
hat there are people who spend worst.
She is a fantastic writter and she speaking a discriminate with another person. In conclusion I thik I think that we should not discriminate against anyone because we all have the same rightsand is free to do with your life what you want.

  18. Every one should try to hear about as many stories as possible, there should not be just a single story about anything because it will be an incomplete story. There are many stories for each small or big thing, and those stories can be long, short, sad, happy or many other things, but they all together form a complete person or country. Modifying stories or telling just one part is just another way to control the thoughts or ideas of the people so I think that it is worthwhile trying to know the untold stories. If you know the stories, they will have less control of you an you will be able to do great things. It is fantastic that we can see people, as Chimamada Ngozi Adichie, that show this to the world and open their eyes to make them stop being blind. Olga Civieta Bermejo 1º bach A

  19. I like this video because it is very interesting. It counts as the people when he reads a novel on a country there is thought that the whole country is like this history as for example Africa when we listen to the name of Africa we think that it is a place of many catastrophes, poverty and deaths but we cannot judge a country or a person for only tells the history.
The video girl is proud of his country and says that when she met her roommate, the girl the judge only for their fur and for their country. You also said that we often read stories in which the heroes are white skinned people and if we think it's true what they say because they do not see many dark-skinned heroes.
In my opinion I think we should know before the country and / or person before judging.
